Field of Poppies Dress

I am in  hurry to get my sister in law from the airport.
She is coming in town for woman's conference, and I know that once her family gets a hold of her they are not going to let her go, so I am going to kidnap her at the airport and take her to lunch with my sisters.

I said I would post this today and so I am doing it really quick so wish me luck.

At the end of February Joann had it's Casa collection on sale so I went to get the fabric for the girls dresses.
They did not have orange.
This may seam strange to some of you that I would want orange of an Easter dress, but it is Baby Sister's favorite color.
I was at a loss as what to do so I went with pale green, I knew this would be a problem, but really I had no choice in the matter.

Than two weeks ago Joann was having another sale and this time it was a better deal.
I did not go there for satin but when I walked by I saw that they had spring colors, and not only did they have orange they also had coral.
The orange was a bit harsh compared to the other girls colors so we went with coral.

I originally was going to make two tulip dresses but after the first one, there was no way I was going to do that again.
I used the same bodice pattern as Lala's, and did a simple two layered, petty skirt lined skirt.
The petty skirt is a light orange color because baby sister didn't believe me that coral was the same as orange, now when it is turned inside out it looks like sherbet.

It was looking pretty simple so I added about forty flowers.
So here you have it for your viewing pleasure...

THE FIELD OF POPPIES DRESS

How stinking cute is that?

Of course the big bow in the back.

Super cute tulip sleeve.

A close up of the flowers.

I attached each flower with these little beads.
Good looking said "Of course it needs beads, how else are the bees going to eat?"
He can be such a dork.

Well there you go I am now off to the airport, I hope you have a great day.

Also, are you going to need a tutorial on these flowers too?

Lala's Tulip Dress

Do you remember this picture?
It is from when I cleaned my sewing room.
I explained that the pile of satins was magically going to transform onto Easter dresses.
It did !
I stayed up until 2:45am and then got up at seven to make Baubi's skirt.
I wish I could say they were all finished, but like I just said...
I wish.
Gowyn's dress and Baubi's skirt still need flowers, so until then I will show you Lala's

I called it the tulip dress.
See how the skirt crosses in the front to look like an upside down tulip.

How can you have an Easter dress with out a big ol' bow in the back?
I can't, I have tried and it is just not the same.

I even made the sleeves look like tulips.

The finishing touch was this giant flower,
it looks more like a chrysanthemum than a tulip.
I figure a flower dress is a flower dress.

She was so excited about this dress she would come up and pet it.
She could hardly wait for Sunday to come.

We are going to take pictures of their bodies in their dresses later this week,
the weather is suppose to be better by then.
I will be sure to show you again, with an actual body inside.

Let me know if you want a tutorial on the flower.

Tomorrow Baby sister's dress.

This is so embarrassing

It is embarrassing but true, My sewing room is the biggest room in my house.
I do live in a small house and when we were finishing the basement it just made sense to put my sewing room in that space and then it turned out to be the biggest room in the house.

The embarrassing part is that I really don't appreciate it the way I should.
I mean if you had the biggest room in your house dedicated to your mess and you could just close the door on it and move on with your day, would it always be clean.

Your right you would love it more than I do , I mean I really love it don't get me wrong it just hasn't been that organised and I will be honest with you, I throw things in there and forget it.

So get ready to gasp and shriek in disgust, here it is for your viewing pleasure.

My messy sewing room.

I did not stage this

I just walked in and started clicking pictures.

I mean seriously I couldn't even shut that drawer before leaving my room.
Or put that broom to good use.

So this is what happened last week I couldn't take it any longer.
I took some funds and went to IKEA and bought some storage supplies and got to work.

TA DA!!

That door on the left goes to the cold storage.
I even mopped the floor.

Those little baskets on the end of the counter are holding my quilting scraps.

This is my new storage solution, these wire baskets are from the IKEA and they fit inside my cabinets.
Now my fabric is organized by holiday, fiber content and color.
I made bolts out of cardboard to hold anyhting over two yards.
I mean seriously what is cuter than that.

Look at that clean counter, These fabrics are for my current projects.
That pile of satin is going to magically turn into Easter dresses.
As I am typing this on Thursday morning one dress is done, three more to go.
Wish me luck, I am going to need it.

Here are my sewing machines, I am very spoiled I have industrial machines and that super sweet Bernina.
I got Good Looking to hang those thread holders.
There is still a lot of work to do. I haven't cleaned out my drawers and there are still things hiding there under the table, but compared to what it used to be I am thinking it is pretty amazing.
It even echos in there now.

There you go my little secret, well I better go I have three dresses to sew in the next two days.

Also my number one sewing tip that I always tell people is...
that you need to have your own dedicated space for your sewing. Whether it be a card table in the corner of your family room or the biggest room in your house. I feel that if you don't have a dedicated space you will not get out your stuff to sew.
And if you can shut the door on it even better. :)

So Here It Is

So I said I was going to post how to cut your fabric for the swap and I still haven't.
I am a looser it is true.
So with out further ado here you go.

There you go I hope that helps sorry for being so late.

Baby sister started throwing up on Thursday and didn't stop until yesterday.
Her spirit was truly gone while she was sick, she would just lay there looking so sad.

See
She was actually looking at me for this picture.

Just look at that sad face.

Then yesterday she threw off her blankets and yelled
"Me is all better"
She is back to her old self, playing, talking to her toys, and is wanting a third gogurt for the day.

Lala came home from school yesterday saying that she didn't feel good,
yep, she threw up this morning.
She is already acting like herself so I am not that worried.
Fingers crossed.

I also cleaned my sewing room but we will save that for another day.
Trust me when I say it is amazing.

I have started to get fabric and it is very exciting!
So far I have green (kelly and lime)
blue
aqua
yellow
I can hardly wait to see what every one else has sent.

Thanks for playing, and swapping

Thanks to everyone who has come to play for my first swap.
I have told you all that I will be back in a couple of days with all the details,
that day will be Monday.

Things have been very crazy here, not only with the swap, but I had to finish a skirt order for a family friend.
See...

The color is more true to the first two photos.

I made four skirts with three tulle skirts each, that is twelve tulle skirts total.
Plus four other skirts to complete the order.
Seven skirts total in case I lost anyone along the way.

Then my sister came over and I helped make skirts for her daughter.

So my week was sew a little, come check the computer, put everyone in their place with their matching color, go down sew a little more, check the computer, pick the girls up from school, check the computer, feed said children, check the computer, wonder why that email didn't go through either, kiss the husband, check the computer again.
 Seriously!

Needlees to say I am tired and I am throwing a bridal shower for my sister tomorrow. For those following along at home, yes I know she got married six months ago, but I was a little busy making the
twenty two flower girl dresses to find the time to throw her a shower, so we are doing it tomorrow for her six month anniversary.
It is a surprise so it should be fun.

There have been some questions asked so here it goes.

I will be back on Monday with all the details.
You don't need to wash your fabric.
You don't have to buy your fabric at Joann, it was just a suggestion for the budget conscience.
This is Kelly green.
If in doubt this is a spring swap so think of bright spring colors.

OK, OK, I think that is it, I will see you all on Monday.
I am going to sleep now, thank you.

If you joined and don't have an email from me send me an email directly so I know it will work.

Purple (both spaces are taken)

So if you want in group two leave your comment here.
Since a post without a picture is boring here is picture of spring time last year
It had better start looking like this soon.
They say it is going to snow tomorrow for Baubi's track meet.
BOO!

Monday, April 4, 2011

let's get swapping.

This is what I woke up to on April third, yes snow.
Not just snow but this yucky blowing snow than stuck to everything. I guess that is what they mean by spring in Utah, you see yesterday it was 78 degrees.  Today snow and 38 degrees.

It's OK, see it is already melting, but it is spring and we should be thinking of things like...

Rainbows!!
What could be more fun then fabric rainbows.

These are the left overs from this quilt.

Like I said in this post, I entered a color charm swap back in January. Some of my friends want me to do a swap of my own. So here we go.
Because she is fabulous we will be using Care's instructions.

THE BASICS:Mail 200 squares to me by April 23 Get 200 squares back, April 30 all different,

 THE DETAILS:
Cut twenty 4" squares from ten different fabrics. A quarter yard of fabric or a fat quarter will get you 20 4" squares. You will be purchasing a totally of 2 1/2 yards of fabric. This is nothing when you think about all the different fabrics you will be getting back.
Also Joann is going to have their fat quarters on sale April 10 for .99
WHAT!
It is true so if you are on a budget this is the swap for you.

Just a reminder that we are doing a color charm swap. We want fabrics that when you look at them you know what color you are looking at. Here are some examples of what not to do.

This is NOT green
This is NOT orange

and finally this is NOT yellow.

Since it is spring we want spring colors.

So this is what we are going to do. There are 10 colors total. There are to be twenty people in the swap
So that means that there are two people for each color.
These are your choices

Red (sorry both spaces are gone)
Pink (both spaces are gone)
Orange (both spaces are gone)
Yellow (both spaces are taken)
Kelly green (one space taken)
Lime green (one space taken)
Blue (both are gone)
Aqua (both are taken)
Purple (both purple spaces gone)
Fuchsia/hot pink (both are taken)

It looks like we are full so we are going to try for group 2
I will leave this open till the end of the week or until the second group is full
If you know someone who might want to play tell them all about it.

So here is the plan, if you want to play leave a comment, with your color choice and your email.
Look through the comments and make sure that you are not choosing one that is already taken.
I will check back and edit the choices.
I am going to do this again in the fall, with fall colors if you would like to wait until then.

The deadline is going to be April 23, That way you have three weeks to buy your fabric and mail it to me.
(I will email you those details.)
Also you will get in on the Joann sale.
If everyone gets me their fabric on time, I will mail them back to you by the 30th.
Then if you are awesome you can have your rainbow quilt done in time for summer picnics.

So if you are in leave a comment with your color choice, and your email.
The first 16 people are in, but if we have a demand for it we will add another group.
Come on you know you want to.

We are full please go here to enter swap 2

Thanks for playing.
