Every year I enter the state fair.
This year was no exception,
the only problem was I did not make a very good showing.
Out of six things I entered, I only got two blue ribbons.
I know....
I should be grateful for two, but when you have won ten in one year two is pretty sad.
Here is what I entered and what I got.
Baby Sister's Easter dress got a blue ribbon,
seriously how could it not.
Christmas dress also got a blue ribbon.
Musketeer got a second place.
She was at a party where they painted pumpkins, and did not give out smocks,
and yes she got paint on it.
I know, I was screaming about it too.
They marked it down because of it.
Baubi's pageant dress also got a second place,
I have to wonder who got first, and how they beat me.
My looser quilt lost again, this time second place.
No blue ribbon on that one either.
This adorable witch costume got third place.
They said the shirt was dirty, and that the red bow did not match.
I'm not buying it.
I never thought of myself as a competitive person, until I started entering the fair.
Now I find myself walking around the fair saying things like...
"Come on, how did that not win."
I still have never walked away with a purple sweepstakes ribbon either.
I get all sort of grouchy when I walk over to the sweepstakes table
and see what made it.
I know, I know I should be grateful but when I do all this work,
and all I get is a stinking second place, it rubs me wrong.
Good Looking knows this about me, so to make up for the fact that I lost the quilt contest,
he bought me this.
It was waiting on the front porch for me when we came home from the fair.
Isn't just about the cutest thing.
I knew there was a reason I loved that man so much, he is pretty fabulous.
In other news I have started getting fabrics for the swaps, they are good ones.
You are going to be excited about it.
I hope a whole bunch come in the next couple of days, so that we stay on schedule.
Wow that is one cool bike! Lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they had to let other people win because otherwise they'd be playing favourites ;) From those girls smiles it looks like you're winning with them! All the outfits are adorable and you must have worked so hard. You're braver than me because I don't think I'd ever enter a contest so know that you are one very brave and talented lady!
Please let me know when you've got the fabric I sent, I'm really hoping it will cross the ocean in time :)
I've never been very competitive either until this year. At our local quilt show my baby quilt got 2nd place. I graciously accepted it because the 1st place was much better than mine. But for our county fair I entered a completely different baby quilt and it got 2nd place. Guess who got 1st? Yep the exact same quilt that beat me at the quilt show. I was ticked! Hubby was nice enough to point out that I'm actually the better quilter, because I took the time to make 2 different baby quilts for the different shows and this lady just reused her quilt. Haha gotta love our hubbys! Enjoy your bike!
ReplyDeleteAww . . . if it makes you feel better, I got a red on a dress of Emilie's that I entered in the COUNTY fair. And there were hardly any entries. You never know what a judge is going to go for. And great job on that gorgeous Easter dress!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are all lovely! Sometimes judges let their personal taste stand in the way of seeing what's actually best. :-/
ReplyDeleteMy gold fabrics went in the mail today. Here's hoping they arrive this weekend! I think you'll get a kick out of them.
How do I get to be a judge?? I can make things right in the world of state fair around here!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know my fears of leaving precious things at the state fair, but this year I should have entered Grace's baptism dress. Seriously, who in this state has pieced more lace this summer than me??
Love ya
Kim
You are the grand sweepstakes winner in our book, Robyn! Always. Love you, Grandma Kath and Papa Bill
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you SO deserved that win on the quilt. I was playing but you were competing! That quilt is awesome. I give it a double blue ribbon. Everything else is super darling. You are such a winner.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the quilt took second place. It must have been some knockout that took first, then. I love all the dresses, and that Musketeer costume is too adorable! They all are. You do have a great husband, very understanding, and supportive. =)
ReplyDeleteHmm...the costumes and dresses are great but how on earth could that quilt not win hands down!
ReplyDeleteStill reading your blog...man, those fair judges sound brutal! Every year I go to ours and see the mostly LAME offerings, I just shake my head and wonder what happened to GOOD work and imagination. hmmm...maybe I should think about entering this year. I need motivation and competition just might be the ticket ;-)
