Thanks for playing, and swapping

Thanks to everyone who has come to play for my first swap.

I have told you all that I will be back in a couple of days with all the details,

that day will be Monday.

Things have been very crazy here, not only with the swap, but I had to finish a skirt order for a family friend.

See...

The color is more true to the first two photos.

I made four skirts with three tulle skirts each, that is twelve tulle skirts total.

Plus four other skirts to complete the order.

Seven skirts total in case I lost anyone along the way.

Then my sister came over and I helped make skirts for her daughter.

So my week was sew a little, come check the computer, put everyone in their place with their matching color, go down sew a little more, check the computer, pick the girls up from school, check the computer, feed said children, check the computer, wonder why that email didn't go through either, kiss the husband, check the computer again.

 Seriously!

Needlees to say I am tired and I am throwing a bridal shower for my sister tomorrow. For those following along at home, yes I know she got married six months ago, but I was a little busy making the

 twenty two flower girl dresses to find the time to throw her a shower, so we are doing it tomorrow for her six month anniversary. 

It is a surprise so it should be fun.

There have been some questions asked so here it goes.

They say it is going to snow tomorrow for Baubi's track meet.

This is what I woke up to on April third, yes snow.

Not just snow but this yucky blowing snow than stuck to everything. I guess that is what they mean by spring in Utah, you see yesterday it was 78 degrees.  Today snow and 38 degrees.

It's OK, see it is already melting, but it is spring and we should be thinking of things like...

Rainbows!!

What could be more fun then fabric rainbows.

These are the left overs from this quilt.

Like I said in this post, I entered a color charm swap back in January. Some of my friends want me to do a swap of my own. So here we go.

Because she is fabulous we will be using Care's instructions.

THE BASICS:Mail 200 squares to me by April 23 Get 200 squares back, April 30 all different, 

 THE DETAILS:

Cut twenty 4" squares from ten different fabrics. A quarter yard of fabric or a fat quarter will get you 20 4" squares. You will be purchasing a totally of 2 1/2 yards of fabric. This is nothing when you think about all the different fabrics you will be getting back.

 Also Joann is going to have their fat quarters on sale April 10 for .99

 It is true so if you are on a budget this is the swap for you. 

Just a reminder that we are doing a color charm swap. We want fabrics that when you look at them you know what color you are looking at. Here are some examples of what not to do.

This is NOT green

This is NOT orange

and finally this is NOT yellow.

  Since it is spring we want spring colors.

So this is what we are going to do. There are 10 colors total. There are to be twenty people in the swap

So that means that there are two people for each color.

These are your choices

Red (sorry both spaces are gone)

Pink (both spaces are gone)

Orange (both spaces are gone)

Yellow (both spaces are taken)

Kelly green (one space taken)

Lime green (one space taken)

Blue (both are gone)

Aqua (both are taken)

 It looks like we are full so we are going to try for group 2

I will leave this open till the end of the week or until the second group is full

Look through the comments and make sure that you are not choosing one that is already taken.

I will check back and edit the choices.

I am going to do this again in the fall, with fall colors if you would like to wait until then.

The deadline is going to be April 23, That way you have three weeks to buy your fabric and mail it to me.

If everyone gets me their fabric on time, I will mail them back to you by the 30th.

Then if you are awesome you can have your rainbow quilt done in time for summer picnics.

Somewhere over the Rainbow (this has nothing to do with Oz I promise)

See that little munchkin in the back behind baby sister, that is her cousin Sisi.

 (these pictures are from Lake Powell last year)

She is a funny little girl, and she loves rainbows. I don't know if it is that she likes all the colors, or if it is that she doesn't want any of the other colors to feel bad if she didn't pick them, or maybe she is just a little OCD. She just always has to have all of the colors,whether it is in treats, or toys, or even rag if there are multiple colors of something she has to have one of every color. 

Last summer in Lake Powell she only agreed to have her hair done if I did "rainbow" hair.

Then back in January I found this swap. I originally entered just because I like swaps. I like fabric, and I like the idea of getting fabrics that you normally pick out, and then fall in love with.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with all these fabrics and then we were at a family dinner and I saw Sisi playing with all her colors and I was like "DUH"

I followed this tutorial and made this quilt.

Isn't just about the cutest thing.

I used this rainbow fabric for the border thought it was perfect, it had all the colors and it was rainbow.

Took pictures of it and showed it to my sister in law.

It was then that I got a call saying that she loved it, she really did, she couldn't wait until her birthday

 and give it to her.

It was just....

The border had to go. She said that it looked to gay pride and it would bug her all the rest of her life when ever she looked at it. (something along that line)

Now that is not meant to be offensive, I am sure if I used green she might have said it was too Irish, holly berries, too Christmas, bunnies too Easter. Anyway instead of digging myself deeper, we will move on.

And speaking of Easter I used this super cute fabric one year for the girls Easter egg hunting dresses.

Yes I make dresses just for the Easter egg hunt.

I went to the store, and looked, and looked I found some cute pokey dots that had a black back ground, but she wanted something light.

I went to the cutting counter feeling defeated, with more of the sashing fabric to use for the new border.

I helped my sister cut her fabric, and just when we were about to walk away, I found this... 

I mean really, how cute are those colorful bubbles.

Problem solved, it is at the quilters now.

Her birthday is not until the end of April, so I will be back to tell you all how fabulous it all turned out.

In other news my friends have fallen in love with this rainbow quilt and have talked me into

 hosting a swap myself.

 Deep cleansing breath, I can do this I really can.

Last week was Celebrate Oz and it was fun to revisit the witches, and memories of Oz. Saturday I got this cute card from my friend Kim.

So for all of you who became my friend in the last week and a half. Thank you!

I had to take the dog to my sister in law, and my sister is here today to sew skirts for her princess.

I am totally distracted but I wrote everyones name on a paper.

Watch for falling houses

When Lala was Glynda for Halloween I told my sister in law that her daughter could be her for Halloween when she was three. You see five of us (sisters and sister in laws) got pregnant with in a year, so we have five three year olds in the family. So this past Halloween each of our kids were a character for the Wizard of Oz. Baby sister was the Wicked Witch of the East. Since this is all you ever see, the imagination was the limit. 

We started with the hat, Baby sister's favorite color is orange, and she wouldn't leave the store without it.

I next made the skirt, with just the tulle skirts, no lining, the orange, purple and green layered on top of each other looked like a bruise.

I added the white to separate the colors, then with the over skirt it brought the total of skirts to fourteen that is not a typo there are fourteen different skirts on that one little size three skirt.

I then made the peasant blouse and corset. I had to put Velcro under the arms to hold it in place. Satin on satin doesn't stay in place on it's own. Go figure.

 You can tell the difference in this photo.

 It was so fun to have all the three year olds running down the street in their Oz finest. In fact it was so much fun that we didn't get a picture of it. There is not one picture of all the girls dressed up. We had Glynda,The Wicked Witch of the East, Dorothy, and a ballerina munchkin. For some reason not one three year old girl wanted to be a spooky witch with a green face. Our number five was across the ocean but if he had been here he would have made the cutest tin man or scarecrow.

Sorry this one is staying in the closet too. My sister had twins so we are going to have to wait until they have had a turn at being the witches of OZ.
