Viking Princess

I had a friend ask me to make her grand daughter a Viking Princess.

I really didn't know what exactly to do.

Until I saw this.

I was like, that is perfect, and who wouldn't want to win a contest.

As I was writing this I went to get the link

 to the contest and found out that I won!!!

I Totally made this same face.

I totally won Woo Hoo!!

Here are the details, faux suede bodice, sheer skirt with ribbon trim, peasant top under dress. 

The Viking cloak was made out of fleece with a satin lined, fur trimmed, hood.

I found the cutest clasp buckle at the Joanns, totally made it fabulous.

No Viking would be complete with out some furry socks.

My niece Juliette was the model, and did a fabulous job.

I still can not believe I won, I am so excited.

The Babies

These are the costumes that I did not make,

at least not this year.

Baby Kate was Tinkerbell.

This was Lala's costume when she was a baby.

The Flash was confusing to this sweet baby,

so the rest of the photos are not the best.

Matching sparkle shoes.

My sister wanted to have little kilts made to match Merida.

Although I love my sister, and I am sure it would have been cute...

I was not going to play that game.

Since I work for a company that makes dress ups we went with that.

The twins love the color pink, and the color purple.

One is always pink, and the other purple.

Knowing that this option existed we went with this.

It is all they talked about,

being the pink and purple princess.  

That takes care of all the family costumes.

I did sleep well that night, and the next one too.

Until next year...

Ash-Anna's Princess Tiana

My niece Ash-Anna missed the pre-party.

She was trick or treating in her neighborhood first.

She came late so here is her Princess Tiana.

It was taken indoors, at night, in the dark, and with a flash,

so the pics are not as fabulous as they could be.

In person, in the sun, it is very sparkly.

Once again I made a little girls dream come true.

I love doing that. 

Baby Sister's Clown

Baby Sister wasn't sure what she was going to be.

She went back and forth and wouldn't make up her mind.

Then one day she said that she wanted to be a clown.

Baubi quickly pointed out that that is not allowed.

I have had a long standing rule,

 there will be no clowns, or gypsies for Halloween.

Not because they are freaky, the truth is this...

it is below my skill level.

I think any mother with minimal sewing skills 

can whip together a clown or a Gypsie.

I am not a mother with minimal sewing skills.

It is true I am a sewing snob.

There I admitted it, isn't that the first step of recovery.

After thinking about it I gave in.

It fits her personality to well.

I thought I could make her a Lalaloopsy clown.

Layered tutu skirt.

Orange (because it is still her favorite color) satin tuxedo jacket...

Complete with tails.

I loved it, and it became my favorite one this year.

I especially loved her leggies.

I will work on my sewing 12 step program, 

and maybe there will be some sort of recovery in the end.

Lala's Fighting Snow White

This past spring we went to see Mirror Mirror.

Lala LOVED it.

That is what she wanted to be for Halloween.

She even said so as we were leaving the theater.

I begged her to let me make her the blue wedding dress,

or the Queen's wedding dress.

She said no, that she wanted to be the fighting Snow White.

I told her that no one would know who she was.

She didn't care, that is who she wanted to be.

So I made her dreams come true.

Her bucket is red like the apple, with little mirrors glued to it.

Her sword is from her Musketeer days,

I was right no one at school, or trick or treating knew who she was.

It didn't matter because she loved it.

Her cousin Jess kept on photo bombing every picture I was trying to take.

I finally gave up trying to get him to move, and let him be in the pictures.

They had so much fun together trick or treating.

I love that some of my kids best friends are their cousins.

Gowyn's Effie Trinkette

Gowyn wasn't sure of what she was going to be.

She was thinking of being Emma from Once upon a Time.

We could not find a red leather jacket, and even though I love her a lot,

I was not going to pay full price for one if I did find one.

Her very best friend in the whole wide world was wanting to be 

Caesar (the games announcer) from the hunger games.

Since he has always played along with her,

we decided it was time she play along with him.

So she was Effie Trinkette.

I used a jacket pattern that had a peplum,

and the sleeves from Glinda from the Wizard of Oz.

I made the rouched fabric and then made her skirt. 

I even put the flowers on her bum.

Here they are together, Caesar and Effie.

The funny thing about this is that Gowyn HATES the color pink.

Halloween '11

How was your Halloween?

The weather was perfect here yesterday, today is another story.

Yesterday the sun was shining and the birds were singing.

OK I don't know about the birds, but it was sweet.

Today the sun is gone, the clouds and rain are here, and the wind is blowing.

I am so glad that the weather was nice yesterday,

so that the girls didn't have to be bundled up hiding the costumes.

I don't know how many you made, but my grand total was eight.

I will start with the oldest and work my way down.

I am to lazy to picnic them all so bear with me.

Baubi

She didn't know what she wanted to be until a month ago.

She decided on Robin Hood.

Funny story....

I didn't start making hers until Sunday.

I miss cut the skirt, (that is what I get for doing it on Sunday)

I made a matching green ruffle slip, that is what she wore to school.

I went Monday morning bought another yard of fabric, came home,

finished the skirt, rushed to her school to give her her new skirt.

On the way stopped to get gas, and locked my keys in the car.

Good times. 

My sister asked her son what he wanted to be for Halloween,

 and with out hesitation asked

"What is Baubi being"

He was Little John

(I did not make his costume)

It is fun to have cousins who love each other so much.

Gowyn

Is finally done with Cinderella, and wanted to be something spooky.

I made her be a Gray Ghost.

She wasn't sure about it, but she warmed up to it.

Pretty spooky, huh.

We painted her face white.

Her dress was gray satin and lace.

Like last year, her best friend Tai came to play along.

(I didn't make his either)

They had so much fun together.

Lala

She anounced this spring that she was over Arial, and liked Belle now,

So that is what we did.

I think that she looks pretty fabulous.

So does she.

I asked her if she liked it and she said...

"No I LOVE it"

Here she is twirling, because like I have said in the past,

she is our #1 twirler.

Baby Sister

Since she cut her hair this summer, we made her be Rupunzel with the short hair

I have a niece who is very girly and princess 100%,

but when my sister asked her what she wanted to be she said

some warrior princess from star wars the clone wars.

Now since she has naturally long blonde hair, we made her rapunzel with the long hair.

Yes I made them both.

My sister made her braid from a wig,

she even put lights in it so that it would gleem and glow.

Her natural hair goes down to about the second pink flower.

Now if you are keeping track at home we are to five costumes so far, here are the other three

Ash-Nanna

(That is what Baby Sister calls her)

My sister has been planning for a year for my niece to be Mulan.

She gathered all the fabric.

She combined patterns.

She cut it out.

She started sewing it up...

and that is when my niece said NO!!!

She wanted to be something poofy,

she wanted a ball gown, and that is what she got.

we went through the stash and had all the fabric to make her a

Snow Queen

(or as she says a snow princess)

I combined two patterns, so that we could add some fuzzy trim.

Her skirt had six skirts, I am thinking that is poofy personified.

She does have a pretty cute face,

could you say no to that face?

OK here are seven and eight..

The Chubbers

My sister has twin girls, and they are chubby little babies.

Everyone calls them the chubbers.

When you have two little girls, with cute chubby legs, and naturally curly hair,

there is only one thing they can be for Halloween and that is...

Shirley Temple

They were not quite sure what was going on.

Look at those legs, and those dimples for elbows.

So cute and squishy.

When we googled ShirleyTemple dress

there were two that came up the most. 

This polk a dot one.

And this pink ruffle skirt one.

She didn't want to leave her dad's side.

They were pretty funny trick or treaters.

they would hold on to their candy until they got to the next house,

then they would put it in their buckets, and hold onto that candy until the next house.

Now you know whay I have been away from this blog.

I will get back on it I promise.

To all my swappers, I will be going to the post office this week.

Here Come the Witches

I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too!

 I was do excited to join this Ozfest. I have always gone above and beyond when it comes to Halloween, but nothing beats what I have done to recreate the witches of Oz.

It started when Baubi was in second grade. She wanted to be a spooky witch, and who is more spooky then The Wicked Witch of the West.

She cried when I painted her face green, we were even 30 min. late for school, trying to wash it off. In the end she loved it, and got use to being the stand out.

I think that Lala here enjoyed it more. She is definitely to cute to be spooky though.

I mean look at that face, she could never get you and your little dog.

In the spirit of my first blog party I will be giving away this little number.
